Zone: 3 - 9
Native tree of central and eastern U.S. Medium sized tree growing up to 60 ft tall. Often said to be the most numerous and widespread tree in the eastern part of North America. Leaves are usually 3 lobed and have an opposite arrangement on the stem. Common ornamental tree in lawns and boulevards with many varieties and cultivars, making exact identification difficult. Unfortunately its shallow root system can often cause damage to sidewalks and pavement when planted too closely. One of the earliest flowering trees in springs with small reddish flower clusters appearing weeks before the leaves. Red color found throughout the plant including red fruit, reddish buds, red leaf petiole and red fall leaves
